I thought you'd like it. Glad to see I was right.

Exactly. Talking with music nerds is one thing, but the audience is never just music nerds. Gotta make sure it's accessible, see what the People think.

I'm torn between encouraging you to call Viktorya crabby to her face just to see what expression she comes up with, or advising you against it for your own safety.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... I think I'd say 'critical' instead.

Wouldn't count her out on cane wagging. She might just take yours to get it accomplished, and then tell you your voice is too flat.

Funny how that works, isn't it?

Common canal rats are turning into some of my favorites, lately. And yes, especially when I was starting out. Still happens sometimes, because no matter what you sing someone out there is gonna see it through a whole different perspective. That's something even I can't control. Though I'm glad it's never been as bad as people thinking Bruce Springsteen is anti-union.

We defer to our Elders. They do have more experience, in what we do with music and in everything else after dark. And for how critical she can be, she's not cruel about it. Just feels like it sometimes.

She'd... Probably give it back. Better than other options if she really decides she doesn't like you. I only know enough to do emotions, but she can actually make you kinda crazy.

Not saying you're an open book or anything, but I do like how quick I've been able to figure some of you out. Not all, obviously, but there's time.

That's because you're quick on the uptake and don't subscribe to blind patriotism. It's nice. The wildest was probably when I had somebody think a song I'd written about Sam after he'd left, before he died, was a love song. Ended up scrapping it entirely after that, the vibes were ruined.

Yeah, I don't expect you'd defer to anyone except maybe your on conscience. The kind of guidance and safety there is with our Sisters, even with deference, is incredibly helpful. A lot of Kindred don't have that kind of support. Some don't even have their Sires stick around to help them.

Thankfully right now you can't even see my face, unless you're snooping on me.

Don't think she does pay much attention to all that. She's old enough to have her own stash of personal wealth to work with. If you manage to impress her at all, though, she might invest in one of your businesses.

I'm not easy to scare, so rest assured that anything else I learn won't put me off, either.

Exactly. I did get to tell Sam about it, though. He was horrified, which was kind of funny.

No, I don't imagine you would, but I'll assure anyway. Just in case.

I don't know about that. The cookies he got sent were inedible hockey pucks by the time he got 'em.

[ Parents do have unique skills in that department. Luckily for Kaz, neither of Birdie's are going to be coming around to shame him. ] Don't worry, I'm keeping it good company down there. And I'm lucky to have had them over the years. They might not always be helpful in every situation, but they never take a side against any of us.

Can you envision the face I'm making now?
[ She does, for a moment after sending the text, sit there with her tongue stuck out as if that will impact his answer. ]

You are pretty impressive. I'm sure they'd all enjoy your company as much as I do.

I do prefer being sweet with an umbrella to being sour without.

More like an accidental stale nightmare. Had to tell Ma to stop at one point and just send him candy instead.

We've taken to playing Old Maid lately, actually. Betrayal, in any form, is uniquely painful. Wouldn't wish it on anyone, least not anyone I liked.

Oh shit. You're good.

Thank you for that, though I'll be sure to point out which ones would be more amused than offended by the turnips.

Hm, true. Though I'm not the one that has to worry about cavities.

Ended up being a whole hunk of home, but yeah. She did as best she could with what she had, but she was never a baker and neither was his girlfriend at the time, so I don't think they'd have been strictly edible even if they were just sending them down the block. And he liked Razzles, because they were two things at the same time.
