If they're part of a larger plan, then they can fall under deals, I think. In and of themselves in a one-off transaction, probably not.

I figure anything gets necessary if you like who you're doing it for. Even if the who is a cat and the work is cleaning a litterbox.

That's probably true. If you're getting enjoyment out of the experience, it evens out the unpleasant aspects.
