[Kaz knows that look on her face. He can't quite discern the reason for it, whether it's the Fugue and she's trying to remain in the present despite it or something else, but he can tell that her mind is divided. He doesn't always have the answers, so he stays silent and watchful to see if he can discern it. Often answers revealed themselves, and then he can pretend to have known all along.
He gives a small nod of agreement when she says she's going to try and go around the guards. He rests his head against the cushion, weariness settling into him. He's not entirely on top of his game, and he doesn't immediately notice they're being followed, either.]
What are the songs about, then?
[A glance in the review mirror. It takes at least three turns before his mind clicks in that the same car behind them is making the same turns as they are. How long had they been following before he'd even noticed those three? Kaz doesn't know. He hasn't been paying attention. He sits up right and grits his teeth.]
[ To be fair, there's a lot here to split her attention. Basic traffic laws, the Fugue, the inevitable mortality of a man she loves. The last is definitely something she tries to push out of her mind entirely, most of the time. Definitely the kind of thought she's spent a lot of time avoiding in other situations throughout her long life, through careful distraction and, usually, leaving before things get to a point like this.
Not an option in this moment, but the talking helps. ]
There's one about Jingle. I wanna make sure it doesn't sound too Andrew Lloyd Webber.
[ This is accompanied by a small shudder -- she will not have Jingle be jellicle, whatever that has ever meant -- and then, quickly, serious concern the moment Kaz curses.
She hasn't been checking her mirrors, but when she looks now she recognizes the car as having been there a while. At least since the first couple turns she made, going around where she'd last seen the guards.
Car chases are, also, very distracting. Even then: ]
Buckle up.
[ Birdie can survive going through the windshield if this goes bad; Kaz can't. ]
