Yeah, the entertainment district here is full of people dressing up and pretending to be someone not themselves. It makes what they get up to easier, no doubt. At least in the moment. Does your red dress serve the same purpose for you? Like slipping into a different persona or side of yourself you usually keep hidden?

Yeah, that makes sense. I suppose in some way, it's nearly the same thing as someone using fashion and outfits to make themselves feel more confident and in charge.

Sometimes. It reminds me of the easier days. I'm able to slip into a different side of myself that I usually have buried deep down.

Personally, I just feel black always shows off my best side. In seriousness though, yes, I imagine it does make them feel more confident and less inhibited. Many even wear literal masks, to further dive into a new persona for the night.

Armor comes in many forms. Even flimsy fabrics can steel a spine with the right sentiments attached.

Ah yes, I can see that and can't argue. I have also preferred black myself for that very reason.

It's very true. And sometimes, with a particular mark or pigeon, it's handy to have a dress like it ready to appeal to their basic instincts.

You know what’s funny? You and I argue less than most I know. Yet I’m one of the most argumentative people I know.

Did he? He once blamed mine on fire being my primary ability. I think his words were 'With your attitude, it's no wonder you're a pyro.' I might have lit his jacket on fire afterward.

You and me both. I prefer this over having another enemy. Besides. All the havoc we can create as allies and friends is so much better than as enemies.

Everyone talks about fire burning things to ashes, and it does. Those who are smart about it though know that sometimes it takes a razing to properly have something new grow.

Exactly. In some ecosystems, a burn is necessary in order for new growth. In this case, I thought he needed a new jacket and an attitude adjustment.

Both worked in the short term.

Absolutely. As there always should be.

A lesson to learn, always have another jacket as a backup. When one steals, always steal in pairs where applicable.

That motto does come in handy, especially when you need multiple hats or jackets for any reason.

It's how I have so many grimoires from assholes who didn't need them.

Storing up for a rainy day works in every sense, especially in places saturated like Ketterdam or New Orleans. The question is more a matter of timing, distribution, and usage than anything else. As tempting as it is to swindle at every turn, sometimes its better to let the small fish get swallowed by another first, and let the work be done for you. The wait is longer but the payout more plentiful, and there's more to give around at the end to those who deserve it.

Once upon a time, I would have said patience wasn't a virtue I held. But, over the last decade or so, I've learned that what you say is true.

It is annoying to have to wait so long though sometimes.

Admittedly, I have a lot more patience for plots than I do people. I'm all right with years of meticulous planning but I get annoyed being asked the same question more than once.

I can see that. Even as a more 'people person', people are exhausting.

Feeding your roof crows has reminded me how sometimes I prefer animals (including birds) over people. And plans. Animals and plans.

They are indeed. It’s a very short list whose company I enjoy instead of just tolerating.

I like that you had to specify the birds are included, too. Is it because they have no manners you needed to add that addendum?

Exactly.

Birds have exactly zero manners, except perhaps the crow to a certain degree, and so yes, I had to specify that they were included despite that.

Even the ones who are rude like geese are amusing to a degree.

They just know what they want and aren't afraid to honk about it.

Once, for a span of ten minutes, I wanted to be a goose and just honk at people and peck at them.

But, I figured it's much more fun to be sarcastic instead.

Plus, a goose couldn't set people on fire.

Although perhaps one sent to hell could. I'd have to check with Adonis on that.

Why have I not asked this myself? Not that I've seen one when I've been there but... if there is, I have found my new pet.

[So he can play with it. She's likely seen him make friends with guard animals on the job while everyone else in the crew wonders why Dirtyhands is only nice to them. Furry animals especially seem to delight him. He tries to hide it but can't resist rubbing their bellies to the Crows endless amusement, though it's in large part because he can touch them without touching skin.]

They should but haven't managed to find mine yet. It would figure that it would be a goose from hell.

You should. If it’s impressive enough I wouldn’t be above replacing a current crew member with it. The feathers might hide the tattoo, though.
